Kitsap County District CourtPosition 2Legal/Judicial Experience: Appointed to the Kitsap County District Court in 2009, and elected in 2010, 2014, and 2018. Served as a Kitsap County chief deputy prosecuting attorney from 1995 until being appointed to the bench in 2009, and as a criminal defense attorney from 1981 to 1994. Admitted to the Washington State Bar Association in 1981. Education: Graduate of Wilson High School, Tacoma, WA. 1974. Graduate of the University of Puget Sound. 1978. Law degree from the University of Puget Sound School of Law. 1981. Statement: A judge must be humble and treat all with dignity and respect. Judge Jahns is honored and grateful to have been given the opportunity to serve the public as a judge. Judge Jahns was a Dean for the 2014 Washington Judicial College, a mandatory one week conference all new Washington judicial officers are required to attend. He is a past member of the District and Municipal Court Judges Association Board of Governors. Judge Jahns has authored 17 professional articles and publications, and presented 115 training sessions for judges, lawyers, law enforcement and various government agencies. His Traffic Stops in Washington State Bench Book (2013) is a comprehensive textbook on Washington search and seizure law from a traffic stop perspective. In 2021, Judge Jahns received the Kitsap County Bar Association Trustee’s Award along with Kitsap County Superior Court Presiding Judge Kevin D. Hull for their successful efforts in keeping Kitsap County’s judicial branch open throughout the pandemic. In 2004, Judge Jahns received the Washington State Bar Association Professionalism Award for his work as a prosecutor. In 1995, he received the Kitsap County Bar Association Professionalism Award for his work as a criminal defense attorney. |
