Washington Supreme Court

Supreme Court justices are elected to six-year terms by voters throughout the entire state. There are nine Supreme Court justices, and Washington residents will vote for three in 2010.

Supreme Court candidates appear on the primary election ballot on August 17, 2010. If a candidate receives more than 50% of the votes cast in the primary, that candidate appears on the general election ballot without opposition. If no candidate receives more than 50% in the primary, the top two candidates appear on the general election ballot on November 2, 2010.

Position 1: Jim Johnson is the incumbent. He is being challenged by Stan Rumbaugh. This contest will be decided in the Primary.

Position 5: Barbara Madsen is the incumbent. She is running for re-election without opposition.

Superior Court

Most Superior Court judges were elected in 2008, and they will be up for election again in 2012.

The Position 2 race will appear on the Primary ballot, with the top two candidates proceeding to the November ballot. In the other seven Positions,  the incumbent judges are running for re-election without opposition.
