Current Occupation/Employer: Island County Superior Court Judge, State of Washington Education: Juris Doctor degree, University of Washington School of Law, 1976. B.A., magna cum laude, Western Washington University, 1973. Legal/Judicial Experience: Superior Court Judge, Island and San Juan Counties, 1989-2007, Island County, 2008-present. Attorney in private practice, Oak Harbor, Washington, 1985-88. Island County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney, 1976-84. Family: Married 33 years to Elizabeth Hancock, two grown children. Candidate Statement: Since 1989, Alan Hancock has served with distinction as Island County Superior Court Judge. With his judicial colleagues, he has implemented many programs, such as CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) in dependency cases, therapeutic drug courts, family law mediation, parenting seminars, telephonic court appearances, and a courthouse facilitator program, to provide for an efficient judicial system and access to justice for all citizens. Most importantly, Judge Hancock’s decision-making is painstakingly fair and impartial. He has received the Washington State Bar Association’s Outstanding Judge Award for his commitment to fairness and excellence. Judge Hancock chairs the Washington State Supreme Court’s Ethics Advisory Committee and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Superior Court Judges’ Association. He is a member of the Coupeville United Methodist Church, Navy League of the United States, Central Whidbey Lions Club, Island County Historical Society, San Juan Island Historical Society, and the Kenmore & District Pipe Band. He and his wife Elizabeth live on the family farm near Coupeville. |
