Current Occupation/Employer: Superior Court Judge/State of Washington.

Education: 1968 Linfield College BA (cum laude); 1971 University of Washington JD: 1983 New York University Masters of Labor Law

Legal/Judicial Experience: 21 years U.S. Navy Jag Corps, 8 years prosecuting attorney, 7 years Superior Court Judge

Family: married for 41 years, 2 sons and four grandchildren.

Significant Career Experience: General Court-martial Judge, hundreds of jury trials

Candidate Statement: After graduating from Linfield College in 1968, and the University of Washington Law School in 1971, I served in the U.S. Navy for 21 years. While in the Navy I received a Masters of Labor Law from New York University. After retiring in 1992, Cheryl and I moved to Cowlitz County, serving as a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney until 1994, as Prosecuting Attorney 1994 to 2000, and as a Judge of the Superior Court since November 2000. As we have stated in the “Cowlitz County Superior Court Long Range Strategic Plan,” I am committed to upholding the constitutions and laws of the State of Washington and the United States, protecting the personal and property rights of all people, and providing an impartial, safe, and accessible forum for the fair, open, and expeditious resolution of legal matters.


 

Because only one candidate filed for this Superior Court position, the candidate will appear on the August 19 primary ballot unopposed.
