Candidate Statement: The Clallam County Superior Court is a respected and innovative court. We began the State’s first unified family court in 1991. We created the northwest’s first Juvenile Drug Court in 1997. An Adult Drug Court followed in 1999. We have also established a special calendar for those with mental health issues. A Courthouse Facilitator now helps people without attorneys have their cases heard in court. Our new Family Therapeutic Court will help heal broken families. The Court’s “pay or appear” program is showing a good record of collecting restitution and fines from convicted felons. We are committed to adopting Court procedures that will benefit our community and make wiser use of taxpayer funds. We believe in the principles of restorative justice. Problem solving courts such as drug court and sentence alternatives that provide treatment for the addicted are proven programs to reduce recidivism and save taxpayers money. As a Judge I have been privileged to work with others in Clallam County and across the state to expand drug courts, and to implement new sentence alternatives. I look forward to continuing to provide service as one of Clallam County’s three Superior Court Judges. |
